Virat Kohli continued to shatter the record books as he completed a huge milestone the third day of play in the first test match between India and New Zealand on Friday (October 18) at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium during India's second innings.
Kohli once again walked out to bat at number three as India continued with the smae batter order which was bowled out for a record low of 46 in the first innings. The former India captain hit his first half-century of 2024 in Test cricket to give the hosts a glimmer of hope to either draw or win the match.
Virat Kohli Creates History
Through the course of his knock, Kohli created history by completing 9,000 runs in Test cricket history. The 35-year-old old is the fourth Indian to achieve the milestone. He is only the 17th player from across the world to complet the feat.
Kohli joins Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, and Sachin Tendulkar as the only Indian to make more than 9000 runs in the longest format of the game.

Kohli needed 197 innings to reach the milestone. He is the slowest Indian to complete 9000 runs after Dravid (176), Tendulkar (179), and Gavaskar (192).
Kohli is also 4th in the list of most Test centuries by an Indian with 29 tons so far, with the only Tendulkar (51), Dravid (36), and Gavaskar (30).
Kohli made his Test debut for India against the West Indies in 2011 and captained India in 68 matches between 2014 and 2022. He is India's most successful captain in the longest format of the game, having won 40 matches.
The 35-year-old is nearing the elusive mark of 10,000 Test runs, which will certify his status as among the greatest Test batters of all time.
