Tempers flared between India and Australia during the Boxing Day Test as Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas got involved in a heated exchange on Day 1. Virat Kohli bumped into Konstas' shoulder while passing by but the youngster didn't like it and said a few words to Kohli. Things got heated between the two players before umpires intervened to calm them down.
Konstas was drafted into the Australia squad following a great run in Shield Cricket. He also slammed a hundred against India A while representing PM XI in the practice game. He replaced Nathan McSweeney who failed to grab the opportunity and failed in the first three Test. Kontas, however, did not let the chance slip and made India pay on his debut. He was brutally aggressive and slammed a 52-ball fifty. He thus became the second youngest to hit a fifty for Australia at 19 years and 85 days.
Konstas' dominance could be understood by the fact that the young batter slammed Jasprit Bumrah for 18 runs in an over. Bumrah has been the best bowler of the series, taking 21 wickets, but he looked ineffective against the young prodigy.
Meanwhile, the Boxing Day Test stands of utmost importance. With the series tied at 1-1, the winner of the match will ensure at least a draw in the series. Konstas' fiery knock in the first session has put India on the backfoot early in the match and Australia will be delighted.
Meanwhile, India made a bold move and added Washington Sundar to the playing XI. While it was expected that Sundar could come in place of Nitish Reddy, Rohit surprised many and included Sundar at the expense of batter Shubman Gill, who was going through a lean run in the series. The move has almost confirmed Rohit Sharma's promotion as an opener in the Test.
