India were hit by an injury blow in the final hour of the second day of the Test match against New Zealand as Rishabh Pant walked off the field. The Indian wicketkeeper was hit with the ball on his knee after he failed to collect it. Rishabh was down in pain and after a few minutes, he walked off the field. Dhruv Jurel kept the wickets in his absence.
Rohit Sharma provided an update on Rishabh after the end of the day's play and said that they didn't want to take risk with him. "We don't want to take any risks. Rishabh did not want to take a risk. He has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg. That was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, tonight he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow," the India captain said.
The team management will hope that Rishabh gets fit for the third day's play. Dhruv has been part of the team since the England series and he will walk into the playing XI if Rishabh misses a game. He will continue to keep wickets if Rishabh doesn't keep the wickets on the third day.
New Zealand with big lead
New Zealand's bowlers did the job for them and bowled out India for a mere total of 46. Matt Henry took a five-fer while William ORourke scalped four wickets. Rishabh top-scored for India with a score of 20.
New Zealand were off to a positive start and their openers, Tom Latham and Devon Conway added 67 runs for the first wicket. Conway missed out on a century and departed for 91. He was trapped in front of the stumps by R Ashwin. Rachin Ravindra (22) and Daryl Mitchell (14) will kick off the proceedings for NZ on the third day.
