Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has addressed reports of a failed doping test, denying any deliberate wrongdoing while expressing shock over the results. The 23-year-old has not played since Chelsea’s Europa Conference League match against Heidenheim last month, where he scored a goal, and was last included in the squad against Aston Villa at the start of December.

Expressing his stance, Mudryk stated: “This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules. I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened. I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon.”
Amid the controversy, Chelsea released a statement affirming their support for the FA’s testing program and Mudryk’s cooperation. “Chelsea Football Club can confirm the Football Association recently contacted our player Mykhailo Mudryk concerning an adverse finding in a routine urine test. Mykhailo has confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances. Both Mykhailo and the Club will now work with the relevant authorities to establish what has caused the adverse finding.”
Reports from Ukrainian media suggest that the substance detected is meldonium, the same drug that led to tennis star Maria Sharapova’s ban in 2016. If the B-sample confirms the findings, Mudryk could face a suspension of up to four years, potentially sidelining him for a significant period and impacting his career trajectory.
As Chelsea and Mudryk await the results of the B-sample analysis, the outcome will determine the next steps for both the player and the club.
