India have put the risk of defeat in the Gabba Test almost behind them after avoiding a follow-on in the last minutes of the fourth day of play following heroics from the 10th wicket pair of Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep, sparking massive celebrations in the Indian dressing room.
After Ravindra Jadeja departed following a spirited knock of 77, India seemed destined to be asked to follow on as they were still 32 runs away from being safe with just one wicket remaining. However, Akash and Bumrah showed remarkable resilience and ensured that the team was safe.
As soon as Australia's lead went below 200, Indian players were overjoyed and broke into wild celebrations. Former captain Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir led the celebrations while captain Rohit Sharma joined in too.

With just one day remaining in the match, India will go into Day 5 at 252-9, and Australia will have to bat again in the match. There is more rain predicted on the last day in Brisbane and a result looks unlikely from here. This will mean that the series will head into the final two Tests with the series level 1-1, keeping their hopes of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final alive. One more win will ensure that India will retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) for the fifth time in a row.
The fourth and fifth Tests are scheduled in Melbourne and Sydney, which are venues India has traditionally excelled in. The two-time WTC runners-up have won at MCG on their last two visits while they have drawn each of their last three Tests at the SCG.
KL Rahul was the star of the show with the bat with a knock of 84 after walking out to open the batting for India despite the top order collapsing around him.
