Kane Williamson continued his red-hot form in Test cricket at home as he notched up his 33rd ton in the longest format of the game during the second innings of the third Test against England on Monday (December 16) at the Seddon Park in Hamilton.
Williamson reached the milestone with a six in just 137 balls as New Zealand aim to build on their massive first-innings lead and avoid a whitewash after losing the first two games. Earlier, the hosts put up a total of 347 and England were bowled out for just 143.

Kane Williamson Creates History

Williamson etched his name in history by becoming the first player in the 147-year-old history of Test cricket to score centuries in five consecutive centuries on the same ground. In the past five Test matches on the ground, Williamson has scores of 200 (Bangladesh, 2019), 4, 104 (England, 2019), 251 (West Indies (2020), 43, 133* (South Africa, 2024). He made 44 runs in the first innings of this match.

Williamson now has seven Test centuries at Hamilton and is close to becoming only the fourth player in history to average more than 100 at a ground (15 or more innings). Only Mahela Jayawardene (11, Colombo SSC), Don Bradman (9, MCG), Jacques Kallis (9, Cape Town), and Kumar Sangakkara (8, Colombo SSC) have more at a single ground while Michael Clarke (Adelaide), Jayawardene (Galle), Mominul Haque (Chattogram), Joe Root (Lord's) also have seven.
Williamson is the first player to score 20 Test centuries in New Zealand. Ross Taylor (12), and John Wright (10) are the only other players to score more than 10 tons for the Black Caps at home. Williamson has also equalled Taylor (24) for the most three-figure scores in all formats of international cricket at home.
Only Mahela Jayawardene (23), Jacques Kallis (23), Ricky Ponting (23), Kumar Sangakkara (22), Sachin Tendulkar (22), Matthew Hayden (21), Joe Root (21) have more tons in a country than Williamson. David Warner also finished his career with 20 Test centuries in Australia.
Having completed the feat in 186 innings, Williamson is the third-quickest player in history to score 33 Test centuries after Sachin Tendulkar (178) and Ricky Ponting (183). After playing 186 innings, no player in history had more centuries than Williamson.
