Virat Kohli has always been one of the most colourful characters both on and off the field. The 36 year old is still regarded as one of the best ever to grace the sports.
Virat always loves to rub shoulders with his opponents in an aggressive way and this time it proved costly in the Melbourne Test. He was fined 20% percent of his match fee for shoulder barging debutant Sam Konstas.
An official IC statement read, “Virat Kohli was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match.”
But Kevin Pietersen backed the 36 year old cricketer citing the game would be boring without players like Virat. Terming him a showman, the former England batter brutally pointed out that other players would retire after achieving 1/4th what Virat Kohli has managed to gather in his decorated career.
He posted on X, “Virat creating theatre down under! Let’s GO!
“Imagine how boring it would be without the showman! And he’s earned EVERYTHING with his runs over his career!
“Many would end their successful international careers with a 1/4 of what he’s achieved….”
Except for the century in Perth, Virat hasn’t been at his best in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He looked to be on his way towards a big score as he forged a 102 run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal to steady the ship.
But a mix-up between the two led to the dismissal of Jaiswal and it triggered a collapse as Virat too went back after a brief period. India are on the brink of a monumental task as the visitors once again will have to rely on the lower middle order in a bid to save the match.
