Dinesh Karthik is sharing commentary duties with Sunil Gavaskar.
India are staring at their first-ever series defeat at home since 2012 against New Zealand. The Rohit Sharma-led side has already conceded a lead of more than 300 runs and NZ still have five wickets left. While there is ample time left in the game, it won't be easy to chase a big target in the fourth innings.
During the ongoing fixture, Sunil Gavaskar stopped Dinesh Karthik from talking about the India-Australia series. Karthik had just started to talk about the series and he said: "There is a big series coming up against Australia as well."
Karthik was stopped by the Indian legend, who asked him not to talk about Australia now. "Don't talk about Australia now. That is a mistake that a lot of people often make. You've got to worry about what's happening now. Your focus should be only on what's happening at the moment. Australia will take care of itself. When you go there, you will find the methods to beat Australia. You've done that over the last couple of trips there. You found a way," he said on commentary.
India are scheduled to tour Australia for a five-match Test series after the home series against New Zealand. India lost the first Test against the Kiwis and are behind in the second game. The third Test of the series will be played from November 1 to 5.
The India-Australia Test series is scheduled to kick off on November 22. India won their previous two Test series in Australia and they will aim for another series win Down Under.
The team for the series will be announced after the end of the India-New Zealand 2nd Test match. A fit-again Mohammed Shami looks set to make his return while the selectors could hand a recall to senior batsman Cheteshwar Pujara.
