India's 2022 U-19 World Cup captain Yash Dhull proved to be the lone warrior for Delhi in their second Ranji Trophy match of the season against Tamil Nadu (TN) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium with the sixth first-class century of his career completing an incredible comeback to the sport after a major health scare.
Earlier this year, a hole was detected in Dhull's heart leading to him undergoing a procedure. Post his heroics against TN, Dhull revealed that it was a minor issue. Before featuring in India's premier first-class competition, Dhull returned to the field in the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League.
Talking about his medical complication, Dhull revealed that the issue was something he had from birth but never detected. It was during a camp at Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy (NCA) that he became aware of the issue.
"This was a very important innings for me because this is after surgery. I have seen a lot. When you come back to playing on such a platform and start a new innings, this is good motivation and a positive sign. I got to know it is minor and from birth [congenital]. [But] I am playing at the ground again, this is God's doing. I am blessed.
"I got to know [of the issue] during a camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. This is life. Something or the other happens. This was a congenital problem. Normally the surgery happens after birth. Mine has happened very late. That we got to know was very important. Because after the age of 35, this would have harmed. Being back on the field makes me very happy," Dhull was quoted saying by Espncricinfo after his century on Sunday (October 20).

Delhi On Cusp Of Big Defeat

Despite Dhull's brilliance, Delhi are heading towards defeat. Earlier, Tamil Nadu declared after posting a huge total of 674 on the board after a double century from Sai Sudharsan and centuries from Washington Sundar and Pradosh Ranjan Paul.
At the end of play on Day 3, Delhi are 274-8 with Dhull unbeaten at 104. No other batter made more than 40 runs for the home side.
