Ace India batter Virat Kohli was seen celebrating Travis Head's wicket hilariously on Day 1 of the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday. The latter was dismissed for a seven-ball duck by ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, a very uncharacteristic innings from the star Australia batter coming on the back of consecutive centuries.
If Sam Konstas' audacious 60 off 65 deliveries enthralled the near sell-out crowd of over 80,000 at the MCG during a humid morning session, Bumrah's deception of length to dismiss Head (0) had its takers as chants of 'Boom, Boom, Booooomraaaaaaah' reverberated through the stands.
As the Indian players gathered around the Indian pacer to celebrate the big wicket, Kohli was seen dancing his way into the celebratory huddle. Watch the video here:
In the next over, Bumrah removed an out-of-form Mitchell Marsh (4), having got Usman Khawaja (57 off 121 balls) with a half-tracker in the post-lunch session.
Akash Deep (1/59 in 19 overs) got Alex Carey with the second new ball at the fag end of the day.
Coming into the Test with consecutive centuries, Head could not judge the length of a Bumrah ball which was pitched fuller than he expected. He shouldered his arms trusting the bounce but the 67-over old Kookaburra nipped back to clip the off-bail.
Head has scored 1124 runs in 14 matches against India, at an average of 48.86 with three hundreds to his name. The other century had come in a match-winning cause in the World Test Championship final last year.
The final session was all about Bumrah magic. The Indian spearhead did not let the hosts walk away with the match which they threatened to do at one stage.
Bumrah now has 24 wickets in the series. With Mohammed Siraj (0/69 in 15 overs) off-colour, Bumrah did not have much support save off-spinner Washington Sundar (1/37 in 12 overs), who bowled a containing line.
