Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Saurav Chauhan has revealed that when he first met ace India batter Virat Kohli in the franchise's dressing room, the latter smiled at him but in a classic fanboy moment, he kept staring at the modern-day great. It was his first IPL season and to see Kohli up and close within a dressing room was a huge moment for Saurav.
During an appearance on Ishan Joshi's podcast, the youngster shared his experience of playing for Bangalore. He played three games and could score just 18 runs.
Although Saurav's time in the field wasn't one to remember, he surely made quite a few memories off the field. One of them was meeting Kohli.
"I always wanted to play with him. If you see, he was batting in the middle when I came out to bat on my IPL debut. It was a completely different feeling," Saurav said while speaking on the podcast.
"Just one or two days before I left for IPL, I had been thinking about what I'll do when I meet him, I even thought about the things I'll discuss with him," Saurav added.
The youngster admitted that he was so nervous upon seeing Kohli that he just kept staring at him.
"So, the first time I met him was in the dressing room. He came and sat at his place. I kept staring at him for 5 minutes. He saw me and even smiled at me, but I kept gazing at him. Then, he came to meet me. So, at that time, I was like 'Wow, Virat has started the conversation with me," Saurav said.
"It took me 2 weeks to prepare myself to have a conversation with Virat Kohli. Finally, when I spoke with him, he was the complete opposite of what we generally see about him on TV and social media. He made me so comfortable," Saurav added.
Unlikely to be retained by RCB as an uncapped player ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, it needs to be seen which franchise picks Saurav up.
