Sanju Samson hasn’t played a single match in the Vijaya Hazare Trophy. The Indian wicketkeeper led the team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but surprisingly dropped from the squad for the domestic 50 over tournament.
Later Kerala Cricket Association confirmed to the Indian Express that the Rajasthan Royals star failed to attend the camp which was organised in Wayanad ahead of the tournament. “Sanju had sent an email stating that he would not be available for the camp. The team had a short camp in Wayanad without him. Naturally, we only considered those who were part of the sessions for selection. There has been no further discussion with him on the matter,” KCA secretary Vinod S Kumar told the publication.
Now it has emerged that Samson has made himself available but it all now depends on whether the KCA will take him back to the squad. Kerala are scheduled to play four more games in Hyderabad and Samson is available for those matches.
But the KCA secretary confirmed to Indian Express that they are yet to take a call on his inclusion. “Sanju has updated us that he is available for selection over the last two days. We are yet to take a call on his inclusion. There is a full contingent already there in Hyderabad and only two games have been played.”
Samson was part of the Indian contingent which triumphed in the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year. Samson has been in phenomenal form and has struck three centuries in the last five T20I appearances.
Sanju has also been retained by Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2025 and it remains to be seen whether he will be given the leadership manyle next season.
