After a nightmare series against India, where he scored just 184 runs in 10 innings with Jasprit Bumrah getting the better of him on six occasions, Usman Khawaja bounced back in style with the maiden double century of his career during the first Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka, which is currently taking place at the Galle International Stadium.
The 38-year-old made a knock of 232 as Australia posted a huge total of 644 on the board. Stand-in skipper Steve Smith (141) and debutant Josh Inglis (131) also made centuries. Khawaja shared a 266-run partnership for the third wicket with Smith. Later, the left-handed opening batter put up a 146-run stand for the fourth wicket with Inglis.
Usman Khawaja Breaks Sachin Tendulkar's Record
With his historic knock, Khawaja broke a 15-year-record of Sachin Tendulkar and became the oldest player in history (from Sri Lanka or visiting team) to score a double century in Sri Lanka. He is the first player to achieve the feat after his 38th birthday.

Khawaja is also the first Australian cricketer in history to score a double century in Sri Lanka. He is the second oldest player in history to score a double ton for Australia, behind only Don Bradman. Bradman reached the milestone twice in his career after celebrating his 38th birthday.
Talking about the match, Australia put up a huge score of 654 on the board before declaring their innings. At Stumps on Day 2, Sri Lanka finds itself in deep trouble at 44/3 in 15 overs, with one wicket each from Mitchell Starc, Matthew Kuhnemann, and Nathan Lyon taking one wicket each.
