Babar Azam has been among Pakistan's best batsmen since his debut and he has broken several records so far. The right-handed batsman is the second-highest run-scorer in T20Is and is close to overtaking Rohit Sharma to become the highest run-scorer. He has scored 4223 runs in 128 T20Is. The former Pakistan captain has 5957 runs in ODIs.
Babar has scored 3997 runs in 55 Tests. He is just three runs away from completing 4000 runs in Tests and will create history when he achieves this milestone.
Babar will become the first Pakistan batsman to score 4000 Test runs, 5000 ODI runs and 2000 T20I runs when he scores 3 runs in the Test series against South Africa.
Babar made his Pakistan debut in an ODI against Zimbabwe in 2015. His T20I and Test debuts came a year later. Babar became Pakistan's all-format captain in 2019/20 but his stint didn't last long.
Under him, Pakistan failed to make it to the second round of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He stepped down as Pakistan's all-format captain after the tournament. He made his return as the T20I captain ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup but Pakistan failed to clear the league stage.
While his captaincy career is seemingly over, he still has age on his side and can finish his career as one of the best batters in Pakistan's history.
Pakistan vs South Africa series
Pakistan will enter the Test series after defeating South Africa 3-0 in the ODI series. SA are a dominant force in Tests at their home and Pakistan will have a tough task against them. The first Test will be played from December 26 to 30 in Centurion. The second game will be played from January 3 to 7 in Cape Town. Pakistan will host West Indies in 2 Tests after the SA series.
