Rohit Sharma was once again back at his usual best in the post-match press-conference after the Brisbane Test on Wednesday. The Indian captain is known for his hilarious replies both on and off the pitch.
Both Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara aren’t a part of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. Despite not playing for India both players have remained active in domestic and county cricket.
Rahane reinvented himself in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The 36 year old ended as the highest run getter in the domestic T20 tournament and also helped Mumbai to lift the title by defeating Baroda in the final.
Pujara also played for Sussex in the County Championship last season but his contract wasn’t renewed for the current season.
While addressing a query on Rahane and Pujara’s potential return, Rohit mistakenly realised his statement and immediately clarified that these two players haven’t retired from cricket. Rohit also added that after announcing his retirement Ravichandran Ashwin might get bust with some other cricketing role probably as a commentator or as a broadcaster.
“We will always remain friends. Yes, we won't be seeing each other on the tour, but we will definitely be meeting each other. Ajinkya is from Bombay, and we meet often. Pujara is hiding somewhere in Rajkot, so we don't meet so often. But Ashwin might join you in a few years, so we will keep meeting him.
“Let me clarify, Rahane has not retired. You'll get me killed. Pujara, too, hasn't retired. I just put them in the same sentence because of your question. At this moment, all three aren't there in the Indian team, but Ashwin has officially retired. But you never know, Rahane and Pujara might return later and the door is open for them.”
India and Australia played an exciting draw in the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. The next match will take place at the MCG starting from December 26.
