India are currently taking on Australia in the third Test of the five-match series for the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Virat Kohli continued his poor form, as he got for just 3 runs off 16 balls. After he got out caught behind while trying to cover drive a ball way outside offstump, Sunil Gavaskar who was on commentary said that Kohli should follow what Sachin Tendulkar had done in 2004 to come back into the flow of runs. Now, Kohli's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has hit back at Gavaskar for this.
In an interaction with PTI, Rajkumar Sharma said tht Sunil Gavaskar's suggestions are welcome but he hoped that he suggested the same to others. He said that Virat Kohli has been performing well since 2008 and it was unfair to judge him based on just two innings. He also brought up the fact the Kohli is just one of four batters to score a century in this series so far.
"Sunil Gavaskar has been a great player and his suggestions are always welcomed but I hope he suggests others also about their batting. He has been performing well since 2008. It will be unfair to say that he is out of form on the basis of two innings. He has already scored a hundred in this series. How many players have got a hundred in the series?, Rajkumar Sharma said.

What Did Sunil Gavaskar Say?

Sachin Tendulkar was not getting runs in the 2003/04 tour to Australia as he was getting out while cover driving the ball. In sydney, Tenulkar played one of the most memorable test knocks in history, when he did not hit one single cover-drive as he slammed 241.
In an interaction with Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that if Kohli shows the same resolve of not playing outside the off-stump like Tendulkar, he too can get a double hundred.
"Just like Sachin Tendulkar did in Sydney, in the previous three Test matches, he was getting out outside the off-stump, caught in the covers, or in the slips. He didn't play even one cover drive, only played straight and scored around two hundred and fifty runs by controlling himself and deciding not to play there. If he plays like this, just as Sachin scored a double century, Kohli can also do the same," Gavaskar said.
