For the second time in the season, the Mumbai selectors took a tough call and they decided to drop Prithvi Shaw once again. The Mumbai opener was dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad after the initial matches due to his fitness issues. Shaw made his return for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and seemed to have the selectors' backing. But he got dropped for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Shaw quickly reacted to the snub by sharing his List A numbers on social media. The numbers confirm that he is one of the best List A players in Indian cricket at present. His form and fitness could be the reasons behind him getting dropped.
Shaw's numbers in List A cricket are pretty impressive and some of his records will leave many surprised. Not one, but Shaw has scored 2 double-centuries in 50-over cricket. He breached the 200-run mark for the first time while playing for Mumbai in the 2020/21 season. He remained unbeaten on 227 against Puducherry. He captained Mumbai to a Vijay Hazare Trophy title win in the season.
2 years later, Shaw breached the 200-run mark for the second time and slammed a double-century in England. Playing for Northamptonshire, Shaw scored a brilliant 244 off just 153 balls.
Talking about his average, it is better than many Indian legends, including Sachin Tendulkar. Shaw has a solid average of 55.72 for his 3399 runs in 65 matches. He has the fourth-best average among the Indian batsmen.
Ruturaj Gaikwad tops this list with an average of 58.16. He is followed by Virat Kohli (57.05) and Cheteshwar Pujara (57.01), respectively. Sachin Tendulkar has a List A average of 45.54.
Shaw also has an impressive strike rate of 125.74. His tally of 3399 runs includes 10 centuries and 14 half-centuries. Shaw can still make his comeback to the Mumbai team if the selectors make a change after the first 3 matches.
