'Don't Waste These Days': Sunil Gavaskar Wants India To Have Mandatory Practice Sessions Before Gabba Test

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has said that the Indian team should look at the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as a three-match series and use the next two days for rigorous practice, with all sessions made mandatory. He wants the team not to waste the remaining days of the pink-ball Test and instead give their best to turn up in a better shape at the Gabba.
India were exposed in their 10-wicket defeat to Australia in the second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which ended in less than two and a half days. Australia bounced back to level the five-match series 1-1.
India skipper Rohit Sharma and ace batter Virat Kohli's never-ending technical problems against both pace and spin have set the alarm bells ringing.
"Look at the remainder of the series as a three-match series. Forget it was a five-Test series. What I would like this Indian team to do is use the next couple of days for practice," Gavaskar said while speaking on Star Sports, the official broadcaster.
"It's very important. You can't be sitting in your hotel room or wherever you're going because you have come here to play cricket," Gavaskar added.
The third Test starts on December 14 and the former Indian cricketer said that the Indians should utilise the intervening time to get their rhythm back.
"You have to get yourself that much more time to get into the rhythm because you have not got the runs. Your bowlers haven't got the rhythm. There are others too who need time in the middle," Gavaskar said.
Indian pacers were found wanting on a fast wicket that offered lateral movement, giving away plenty of runs in the first innings and permitting Australia, centurion Travis Head, to take a massive 157-run lead.
India and Australia are now level at 1-1 in the five-match Test series with India's hopes of playing a third World Test Championship final withering away.
