Sanju Samson once again failed to capitalise on the opportunity provided by Team India and departed for just 10 runs in the second T20I against Bangladesh. With Rishabh Pant rested, Samson retained his place in the T20I team. He got a good start in the first T20I but departed for just 29. He again got off to a decent start and was batting on 10 when he departed.
Not to forget, Samson backed back-to-back ducks against Sri Lanka but the selectors showed faith in him again. But Samson hasn't been able to even touch the 30-run mark in the series so far. Sanju Samson retained his spot in Team India for the 2024 T20 World Cup but he remained on the bench in the ICC event. He retained his spot for the Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka tours. Samson has disappointed against Bangladesh so far.
The selectors could move on from Samson if he fails to deliver in the third T20I. Since Ishan Kishan is set to make his Ranji Trophy return in the first round, he could make his return to Team India. He was dropped from the central contract list for missing the last round of the Ranji Trophy 2023/24 season.
Sanju Samson's career
Sanju Samson made his India debut in a T20I against Zimbabwe in 2015. He remained out of the national team for the next four years. He made his return in 2019 but was dropped without getting a chance. Samson made his return quickly but failed to perform consistently.
He missed out on making it to the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cup squads. Samson has scored 473 runs in 31 T20Is at an average of 19.70. He has only scored 2 half-centuries.
