After playing a responsible knock in the first T20I against Bangladesh, Nitish Reddy showed why he enjoys the team management's backing as he slammed a brilliant 74 off just 34 balls in the second T20I in Delhi. Nitish, who was fast-tracked into the T20I team after the 2024 T20 World Cup, kicked off his knock on a cautious note.
Nitish didn't waste time in upping the ante and punished Bangladesh's bowlers. The star all-rounder took on every bowler and slammed big hits. He batted with a strike rate of 217.65 for his 74 runs.
The right-handed batsman pipped Yashasvi Jaiswal and joined Rohit Sharma in an elite list after touching the 50-run mark. Nitish is now the fourth-youngest Indian to score a half-century in T20Is. He is 21 years and 136 days old.
Rohit Sharma is the youngest half-centurion for India in T20Is. Rohit, who made his T20I debut in 2007, was 20 years and 143 days old when he scored his maiden T20I fifty. Tilak Verma sits at the second spot. He was 20 years and 271 days old when he scored a half-century.
Rishabh Pant was 21 years and 38 days old when he scored a half-century. He is at the third spot. Yashasvi has now moved to the fifth spot. The left-handed batsman was 21 years and 227 days old when he breached the 50-run mark for the first time in T20Is.
Yashasvi isn't part of the T20I team for the ongoing series. The selectors have rested all the Test regulars. Yashasvi will make his on-field return in the Test series against New Zealand.
Talking of the 2nd T20I, India have breached the 175-run mark in less than 17 overs and are aiming for a score of 200. Rinku Singh has also batted brilliantly and scored a quick half-century. India are 1-0 ahead in the series.
