India are currently taking on New Zealand in the second Test of the three-match series at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. This is a must win game for India as they had been defeated in the first Test of the series. A New Zealand victory would mean that India would lose a Test series at home after 12 years. However, the home team have been struggling in the match so far, especially in their batting. In fact, the batters, including the likes of Virat Kohli, struggled against spin on home conditions, which is not something one would associate with Indian batters.

Modern Indian Batters Not Good Against Spin Like Sachin, Ganguly: Simon Doull

India were bundled out for 156 runs, with spinners taking 9 out of the 10 wickets- 7 by Mitchell Santner and 2 by Glenn Phillips. Former New Zealand bowler turned commentator Simon Doull, during an interaction with JioCinema, said that the thought that modern Indian players are better at playing spin than anyone else is a misconception. They are just the same as everyone else around the world. He also added that the days of the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid are long gone.
“I think it is a misconception around the world now that these modern Indian players are better playing spin than anyone else. They are not. They are the same as everyone else around the world,” said Doull in a conversation with JioCinema during the lunch break on Friday. Gone are the days of Ganguly, Gambhir, Laxman and Dravid. Sachin was so, so good against spin, and the era before them,” Doull said.

New Zealand ended Day 2 on 198/5, with a lead of 301 runs.
