Riyan Parag's Bizarre Bowling Action
Parag came with an action similar to Kedar Jadhav but his excuation fell short of the mark. The 22-year-old tried a sling action from behind the umpire's arm to Mahmudullah. The Bangladesh batter missed the ball but the umpire showed no mercy on the Indian all-rounder.
Why Was The Ball Given No-Ball?
Parag's actions were in direct contradictions of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)'s laws of the game as his back-foot was outside the tramline. In fact, the Indian star's foot landed outside the pitch leaving no doubt that it was not a legal delivery.
"The bowler's back foot must land within and not touch the return crease, appertaining to his/her stated mode of delivery. - behind the popping crease. If the bowler's end umpire is not satisfied that all of these three conditions have been met, he/she shall call and signal No ball," Law 21.5 says.
Riyan Parag's Performance
Later in the over, Parag corrected his action and dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz, marking the fourth wicket of his T20I career. The 22-year-old earlier played a quick-fire cameo of 15 runs in six balls, which included two sixes, after walking out to bat in number seven as he helped India post a total of 221 on the board.
So far, Parag has played 1 ODI and 7 T20Is for India after making his debut earlier this year. He took three wickets in his sole ODI appearance. He has made 72 runs in T20I cricket with the bat in his career.
