India pacer Arshdeep Singh is on the cusp of achieving a massive feat in the third T20I between India and England, which will be played on Tuesday evening in Rajkot. He is eyeing Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf's record tally, as he can become the fastest pacer to pick up 100 T20I wickets, which would be a huge achievement for the 25-year-old.
Arshdeep has bagged 98 wickets in 62 T20Is and has been one of the most consistent bowlers in the shortest format for the past two years.
Rauf, the fastest pacer to bag 100 wickets, achieved the feat in his 72nd game at the T20 World Cup last year against Canada in New York.
Spinners expectedly top the list, with Afghanistan's Rashid Khan having reached the 100-wicket milestone in 53 games, followed by Sandeep Lamichhane, who took just one more game than the former.
Fastest to 100 wickets in T20Is
Rashid Khan – 53 matches (against Pakistan in October 2021)
Sandeep Lamichhane – 54 matches (against Bangladesh in June 2024)
Wanindu Hasaranga – 63 matches (against Afghanistan in February 2024)
Haris Rauf – 72matches (against Canada in June 2024)
Ehsan Khan – 71 matches (against Malaysia in August 2024)
Meanwhile, Arshdeep was on Saturday, January 25, crowned the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year 2024 for his influential role in India's World Cup title win, which cemented his reputation as one of the leading short format bowlers.
Arshdeep took 36 wickets in 18 games in 2024. He was named in the ICC T20I Team of the Year 2024 earlier in the day alongside India skipper Rohit Sharma, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.
In the T20 World Cup in the Americas, Arshdeep showed his mastery in both powerplay and death bowling and ended the tournament as the joint highest wicket-taker besides Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi with 17 scalps at an average of 12.64 across eight games.
