The SA20 has been an exciting tournament, with Robin Uthappa recently dubbing it as the second-best T20 franchise tournament after the IPL. Indians have a little extra reason to watch the 2024 edition of the league. This is because legendary India wicketkeeper-batter is playing for the Paarl Royals. In fact, he has been their first-choice wicketkeeper throughout the tournament. The Royals have now created history by achieving a unique feat that no other team has ever done.
Paarl Royals registered their 6th win of the tournament this season, in a tightly contested match against the Pretoria Capitals. On a slowish track at Boland Park, the home side made full use in the second innings. They used five bowlers- Bjorn Fortuin, Dunith Wellalage, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Nqabayomzi Peter and Joe Root. This is now the first time in the history of franchise T20 cricket that a team has used spinners to bowl all of the 20 overs of their innings.
Fortuin, Mujeeb and Root picked 2 wickets each, while Wellalage picked up a single scalp, as they restricted the Pretoria Capitals to 129/7 at the end of their 20 overs. The Royals thus won by 11 runs.

Joe Root's All-Round Show Guides Paarl Royals To Win

Pretoria Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first against Paarl Royals. The home side got off to a horrendous start as they lost their first three wckets for just 41 runs inside the first 8 overs. However, it was Joe Root who stood like a rock for the Royals for the rest of the innings. He slammed 78 from 56 balls in an innings studded with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Captain David Miller ably supported him with a 29-run knock as the Royals scored 140/4.
Root was adjudged he Player of the Match for this knock, in addition to the two crucial wickets of Will Jacks and James Neesham that he took in the second innings. The win now consolidates the Royals' spot at the tip of the SA20 2025 table.
