Pakistan's top-order batsman Fakhar Zaman has begun his preparation for a return to international cricket in the 2025 Champions Trophy, aiming to make a strong comeback on home ground.

In an interview on the Viper Voices podcast, Zaman expressed his full confidence in his readiness to play in the tournament and is working hard to ensure he is in top shape, Express News reported.

He revealed that his entire focus is now on the Champions Trophy, which led to his decision not to play in series against Australia and South Africa. His sole goal is to be fully available for the tournament.

Zaman further added that after missing out on the T20 World Cup due to illness and fitness issues, he has now recovered completely.

He shared that discussions with the selectors and head coach have been positive, with everyone eager to see him in action.

"You will see me in Pakistan's upcoming white-ball series," he said confidently.

The 2023 World Cup was his last appearance in international cricket, with his last match being in June 2024.

Zaman had previously played a match-winning knock of 114 runs in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India.

Zaman also praised 22-year-old opener Saeem Ayub for his impressive start to his One-Day International career, highlighting his three centuries and one half-century in nine innings, including two centuries against Australia and South Africa.

He expressed hope that Ayub would soon recover and continue his promising run.

He further stated that Ayub has the potential to become one of the top three players in the world if he plays for another four to five years.

Zaman also highlighted Pakistan’s strength in having three of the world's top players – Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Saeem Ayub – and described his inclusion in the team as a stroke of good fortune.
