2024 has been an incredible year for Test cricket. The year saw New Zealand whitewash India at home, a rare of the rarest feats, Bangladesh beat Pakistan in Pakistan, and Pakistan defeat England at home. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia have also delivered some thrilling action in the three Tests so far.
There have been some top-class batting performances throughout the year which led teams to magnificent wins. Let's take a look at the top five Test knocks of the year 2024.
Travis Head - 140 vs India: Travis Head has been a thorn in the flesh for the Indians. After a win in the first Test in Perth, India was hoping to double the lead but Travis Head scored a brutal 140 in 141 balls to bat India out of the game in Adelaide. He backed up his Adelaide ton with another brutal century at the GABBA.
Yashasvi Jaiswal - 209 vs England: Yashasvi Jaiswal was on fire in the Test series against England at home and scored over 700 runs in the series. In the second Test in Visakhapatnam, Jaiswal scored a brilliant 209 and took India to a score of 396. He was the only batter in the innings to cross the 50-run mark. Courtesy of the innings, India were able to win the game by 106 runs.
Ollie Pope - 196 vs India: Scoring runs in India is never easy for any overseas batter but Pope played one of his best career innings to lead England to a win. Having bowled out of 236 and conceding a 190-run lead, Pope played a blinder to help England come back from behind and win the Test by 28 runs.
Harry Brook -317 vs Pakistan: Pakistan scored 556 in the first inning, however, Brook’s 317 helped England score 823 and later win the match by an inning and 47 runs. The pitch was a belter but scoring 300 in Multan is no easy feat.
Rachin Ravindra -134 vs India: While everyone expected India to steamroll New Zealand at home, the Kiwis stunned the hosts by winning the series 3-0. Rachin Ravindra was one of the most consistent batters for New Zealand and scored 134 in the first innings of the Bengaluru Test to give New Zealand a 300+ lead which paved the way for an emphatic win.
