Not Suryakumar Or Rohit! 30-Year-Old Batsman Set To End 2024 With Most T20I Runs For India

Rohit Sharma did not score most runs for India in 2024.

India ended their 17-year-long wait and won the 2024 T20 World Cup with a win over South Africa. India cleared the league stage of the majority of ICC events after the 2013 Champions but always fell short. After an 11-year wait, India finally won an ICC trophy under Rohit Sharma's leadership. It was also their first T20 WC title win since 2007.
India underwent major changes after the ICC event as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is. The youngsters have taken up the mantle and will have the challenge to defend the title in 2026.
Sanju Samson is one of the players who has become a regular in T20Is following these retirements and he has also capitalised on the opportunity. Sanju's heroics with the bat are set to see him finish 2024 as India's highest run-scorer in the shortest format.
Samson, who did not get a game at the 2024 T20 World Cup, started the year with a duck against Afghanistan. He played his next game against Zimbabwe (after the WC).
The wicketkeeper-batsman bagged two back-to-back ducks on the Sri Lanka tour and his form worsened against Bangladesh. Samson made a memorable comeback in the third T20I against Bangladesh and finished the series with a century.
It was all or nothing for him in South Africa as he scored 2 centuries and bagged two ducks across four innings. Samson's 3 centuries in 2024 saw him finish the year with 436 runs. He is likely to retain his place in the playing XI even when regulars return for the England series.
Samson is ahead of Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 429 runs. Suryakumar pipped Hardik Pandya to become India's full-time T20I captain. He is followed by Rohit Sharma, who scored 378 runs in 11 matches. With 352 runs, Hardik Pandya sits at the fourth spot.
India will make their return to the T20I format against England in January. The Men in Blue are scheduled to host the Three Lions in 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs in January-February.
