Uttar Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi has said that it was a dream for him to share the same dressing room with his childhood hero, former India captain MS Dhoni in the Chennai Super Kings camp earlier this year and he learned a lot from the veteran India cricketer. Rizvi was one of the top players bought during the IPL 2024 mini-auction last year.
Rizvi was at his unbelievable best on Saturday, December 21 in the U23 State A Trophy, smoking the Tripura bowlers to all corners of the park. He remained unbeaten on 201 off just 97 deliveries, smacking a whopping 20 sixes and 13 boundaries.
In his maiden IPL stint with five-time champions Chennai, Rizvi played eight games, scoring 51 runs but had a dismal average of 12.75.
"I have spent some good time with Mahi sir. It was a dream to share the dressing room with my childhood hero and idol and I am always grateful to God that it came true. I learned a lot from Mahi sir. I wanted to make full use of the opportunity and whenever I got the chance, I walked up to him and asked him a lot of things," Rizvi said while speaking to The Times of India.
"Mahi sir said, 'Everyone plays cricket, but what makes you stand out is something different and that is where the mindset comes into the picture," Rizvi added.
Meanwhile on Saturday, with the help of 13 boundaries and 20 sixes, the Uttar Pradesh captain lit up the Vadodara stadium as his team piled up a huge 405. With the brilliant effort, Rizvi recorded the fastest double hundred in the history of men's U23 State A Trophy but it wouldn't qualify as a List A record.
In List A cricket, New Zealand's Chad Bowes holds the record for the fastest double hundred which came off 103 deliveries against Otago during the Ford Trophy.
