Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan has asked what is wrong if a player wants to speak in a particular language during an interaction, in light of the latest fiasco between India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and the Australian media. While it is being widely considered as tricks played by the Aussie media, there has been a huge hue and cry over the issue.
The interaction between Jadeja and the media was arranged by BCCI for the travelling reporters, while some of the Aussie media outlets came to attend it and were accommodated. Jadeja reportedly didn't answer any English questions which left them unhappy.
The Indian media asked their questions in Hindi and Jadeja replied in the same language, while an Aussie journalist was lined up for his turn to ask as well. But since the Indian team bus was getting late to leave the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Jadeja left without answering his question.
Some of the Aussie journalists were left upset at BCCI's media manager. The argument videos were captured on cameras, reportedly on purpose and later broadcast on Aussie channels.
"What’s wrong if the player wants to give an interview in Hindi," Irfan tweeted on Sunday, December 22.
It was the second such instance of the Australian media being pitted against an Indian player after ace batter Virat Kohli had to ask one of the channels to not film his family without his permission. That was the boiling point and the Jadeja incident added fuel to the fire.
Channel 7, who were at the receiving end of Kohli's outrage, carried out a report claiming Jadeja 'refused' to answer questions from their reporters in English and the TV reporters, who had travelled after being 'invited' and were left 'bemused 'by the strange press conference at the MCG.
The Boxing Day Test between India and Australia will begin on December 26 in Melbourne.
