Arrest Warrant Issued For Ex-Cricketer Robin Uthappa For 23 Lakh PF Fraud (Source: BCCI/IPL)
Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa finds himself in big trouble after an arrest warrant was issued against him for alleged Provident Fund fraud. The warrant was issued by PF Regional Commissioner Shadakshari Gopal Reddy, who also directed Pulakeshinagar police to take necessary action against the former cricketer.
Uthappa, who managed a private company named Centuries Lifestyle Brand Private Limited, was accused of deducting the contributions from employees’ salaries but not depositing them into PF accounts. The alleged sum amounts to ₹23 lakh. The police is yet to get hold of the T20 World Cup winner as he moved to a different address.
"Due to non-remittance of dues, this office is unable to settle the Provident Fund (PF) accounts of poor workers,” the note issued to the Pulakeshinagar Station House Officer (SHO) read. “In view of the above, you are kindly requested to execute the enclosed warrant of arrest," it added.
Uthappa could be charged under the IPL section 405 that deals with criminal breach of trust. If Uthappa settles the dues, the warrant will be void.
Meanwhile, Uthappa announced his retirement from domestic cricket in 2022. He made his debut in 2006, playing in 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is, scoring 934 and 249 runs respectively. The highlight of Uthappa's career was the T20 World Cup 2007 where he played a few cameos and contributed to India's maiden T20 World Cup title under MS Dhoni.
Uthappa was a beast in IPL and scored 4952 runs, ninth highest overall in the history of the league. He helped Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings win the IPL title in 2012 and 2022 respectively.
