Bringing an end to the long impasse around the 2025 Champions Trophy, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that the tournament will be played in a hybrid model and stated that a similar arrangement will be in place for the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup and the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The world cricket governing body stated that India and Pakistan will play their matches in a neutral country in tournaments hosted by each other. This model will be in place for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan, as well as the 2025 Women's World Cup, which will take place in India. The 2026 T20 World Cup, set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, will follow a similar system.
The ICC has also confirmed that Pakistan will host the 2028 Women's T20 World Cup while Australia will host a women's ICC event between 2028 and 2031.
Champions Trophy 2025 Impasse Ends
It is yet to be confirmed which country will host India's matches in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9. ICC stated in the statement that the full schedule for the tournament will be announced in the next few days.
The 2025 Champions Trophy is the first ICC tournament that Pakistan will host in 29 years. They have previously hosted the 1987 and 1996 Cricket World Cups.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed last month that India will not travel to Pakistan. The Men in Blue have not visited the neighbouring nation for any cricketing assignment since the 2008 Asia Cup. In the same period, Pakistan visited India for an ODI and T20I series in 2012-13, the 2016 Men's and Women's T20 World Cup, as well as the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The 2023 Asia Cup was played in a hybrid model with India playing all their matches in Sri Lanka.
The Women's T20 World Cup will mark the first-ever ICC women's tournament that is hosted in Pakistan.
