The Indian batsmen continued to struggle in Australia and the visiting side was reeling at 51/4 after 17 overs at the end of the third day of the Gabba Test match. Responding to Australia's big total of 445, India lost crucial wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill in the first three overs.
Experienced batsman Virat Kohli continued to struggle and he only managed to score 3 off 16 balls. Rishabh Pant's wicket for 9 further added to India's woes. The visitors have their hopes pinned on KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma.
Rahul, who once again opened the innings, is batting on 33 while Rohit is yet to open his account. Questions are being raised on India's below-par batting and Jasprit Bumrah was asked about it after the end of the day's play.
The reporter asked Bumrah to assess India's batting while saying that he wasn't the best person to ask about it. The India vice-captain reminded everyone of his batting abilities and highlighted that he holds the record for scoring the most runs in an over in Test cricket.
"It is an interesting question. But, you are questioning my batting ability. You should use Google and see who has got the most number of runs in a Test over. But, jokes apart. That's another story," Bumrah responded.
Bumrah hit Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over during the one-off Test match against England in 2022. It was his first Test as the captain. Rohit Sharma missed that fixture. Bumrah has been assisting Rohit in Tests since then.
Talking of the ongoing series, both teams have won a game each and the winner of the Gabba Test will gain a 2-1 lead. Australia have bounced back strongly after losing the series opener and are looking dangerous with the bat. On the other hand, India's batting has gone from bad to worse since the Perth Test match.
