- Virat Kohli was dismissed trying to poke outside off
- Sanjay Manjrekar took to social media to voice his concerns
- Gautam Gambhir's coaching staff has come under the scanner
In what felt like an action replay of recent dismissals, Virat Kohli was dismissed for three runs in the first innings of the third Test at Brisbane by Josh Hazlewood. The 36-year-old attempted to drive a delivery but nicked it to Alex Carey.
Although Kohli scored a century in the second innings of the opening Test in Perth, he made scores of 5, 7, 11, and 3 in the remaining innings. The ex-Indian skipper has been dismissed similarly after being caught in the slips twice while edging a delivery to the keeper two times too.
As Kohli's struggles against deliveries outside off-stump continued, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar took to social media and called for questions to be asked of the batting coach. The cricketer-turned-commentator claimed that technical issues in the team have remained unresolved.
"I guess the time has come to scrutinise the role of a batting coach in the Indian team. Why major technical issues have remained unresolved for so long with certain Indian batters," wrote Manjrekar on X (formerly Twitter).
Who is India's Batting Coach?
It is worth noting that India does not have a designated batting coach in Gautam Gambhir's coaching staff. While Gambhir is the head coach, Abhishek Nayyar and Ryan Ten Doeschate occupy the assistant coach role. Meanwhile, Morkel is the bowling coach. T Dilip is the team's fielding coach.
During Rahul Dravid's tenure, Vikram Rahour was the batting coach. Like Dravid, Rathour left the role after India's victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup and has joined Rajasthan Royal.
Rathour was part of the Indian coaching staff since 2019 and served in the role for more than two years while Ravi Shastri was at the helm of affairs. Before him, Sanjay Bangar was the Men in Blue's batting coach till the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
