Gautam Gambhir Warns New Zealand With 'Virat Kohli Is Hungry' Remark Ahead Of Test Series (Source: AP)
It's been a while since Virat Kohli played a big innings for India in Test cricket and his recent struggles against Bangladesh highlighted Kohli's shortcomings in the longest format of the game. India coach Gautam Gambhir, however, is not bothered about Kohli's lean run in Test cricket and is optimistic that the veteran batter will score runs against New Zealand and in the following five-match Test series against Australia.
"Virat Kohli is as hungry as ever, hopefully he will get runs here against New Zealand and then in Australia. We know how consistent he can get once he hits that phase", Gambhir said as quoted by PTI.
Gambhir also said that the team will not change their ultra-aggressive approach even if they get bowled out for a low score. "We won't hold back people from playing aggressive cricket. We may get bundled out for 100 but we are not overly concerned and we'll take it up then," Gambhir on the team's approach.
Vital Series For India In Terms Of WTC
Meanwhile, this is a vital series for India in terms of the World Test Championship (WTC). The 2-0 win over Bangladesh has given India a great opportunity to cement a berth in the WTC final even before boarding the flight to Australia. If India can win the series 3-0 against New Zealand, they will more or less confirm their berth in the WTC final. India currently sit at the top of the table with a PCT of 74.25. The series gets underway on October 16 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
