After the losing the ODI series against Sri Lanka 2-0 back in August, Rohit Sharma came back strongly and led India to a series whitewash against Bangladesh by a similar score-line in the following month. As he has retired from the T20I format after guiding the Men in Blue to their 2nd ever title, Suryakumar Yadav has taken up the role of the captain and so whenever a T20I series comes up, Rohit enjoys his time-off.
But now, he will be once again back in action in three days time on 16th October as India take on New Zealand in a 3-match series at home. Even though, the 37-year didn't have the best of individual campaigns in the Test series against Bangladesh, but he is on the cusp of breaking multiple Test records, when he take the field against the Kiwis.
Virender Sehwag's Record In Jeopardy
India batting great, Virender Sehwag has hit the most number of sixes for India in Test cricket. He hit a total of 91 sixes in his illustrious career and Rohit need five more maximums to be the new holder in this regard. The Mumbai Indians man is currently on 87 sixes.
First Indian to Smash 1000 Runs
Rohit Sharma can also be the first Indian batsman to score 1000 runs in two WTC cycles. He is presently on 742 runs in 11 matches in the ongoing 2023-25 cycle and need 258 runs to achieve the feat. In the inaugural 2019-21 edition, he bagged 1094 runs in 12 matches.
Mohammed Azharuddin's Record
Under former captain Mohammed Azharuddin's captaincy, India won a total of 14 matches out of 47. Rohit has so far led to 12 wins in 18 Test marches. A 3-0 series whitewash win will take him past Azharuddin's record.
Most Successful Indian captain in WTC
Till date, Virat Kohli is the most successful Indian captain in the World Test Championship with 14 wins in 22 matches. Rohit is presently on 12 and like we said, a series win against the Kiwis will also give him the title of the most successful captain in the WTC as well.
