Rishabh Pant shocked his fans with a late-night post on X and teased leaving Delhi Capitals (DC). Rishabh, who has been with DC since his IPL debut in 2016, asked the users to predict the amount he would be sold for if he entered the IPL 2025 mega-auction. "If go to the auction. will I be sold or not and for how much ??" he wrote on X.
Rishabh's post left many surprised as DC's co-owner recently confirmed that they would retain their captain. "Yes, we definitely have to retain. We have some very good players in our team. The rules have just come out, so after discussing with GMR and our director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made. Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained," Parth Jindal said recently.
Is Rishabh really leaving DC or did he post it just for fun? As the fans wait for an official word from Rishabh and the IPL, here we have a look at the DC captain's salary -
Rishabh joined Delhi Capitals (then known as Delhi Daredevils) for Rs 1.9 crore. DC decided against releasing him before the IPL 2018 mega-auction and retained him for Rs 8 crore. A total of 15 crore was deducted from DC's pure.
Before IPL 2021, Rishabh was named DC's captain as Shreyas Iyer was ruled out due to an injury. DC went ahead with Rishabh even when Iyer made his return and retained him as captain for the second half of the season.
Rishabh was once again DC's first-choice retention and earned Rs 16 crore. He is among IPL's highest-earning players. Rishabh can earn more than Rs 15 crore if he enters the IPL 2025 mega-auction but there is no way that DC would release him. Should DC retain Rishabh, he will have a salary of Rs 18 crore.
