Ace Australia pacer Tayla Vlaeminck dislocated her shoulder while attempting to save a boundary during her team's match against Pakistan at the Women's T20 World Cup in Dubai on Friday. The defending champions thrashed Pakistan by nine wickets but Vlaeminck's unfortunate injury will keep them thinking, more after skipper Alyssa Healy injured herself as well.
Vlaeminck dislocated her right shoulder in the incident and her latest setback was an unfortunate one given her history of serious injuries. At the moment, everyone in the Australia team management will hope her recovery is a quick one.
Vlaeminck chased the ball till the end and then put in a slide to prevent it from going past the boundary. Unfortunately, her knee got stuck to the ground and she fell on her right shoulder, with the entire impact of the action on it. Watch the video here:
Vlaeminck grabbed her shoulder and sat at the boundary line, with the pain and agony visible on her face. A number of her teammates and the physio rushed to her immediately. Her shoulder was relocated but the extent of damage remains a concern.
Vlaeminck had earlier dislocated her left shoulder playing for Victoria in the 2017-18 season. "It's horrible seeing one of your mates go down and knowing Tay's road to get back to here. She's someone that probably works harder than anyone else I know so to see someone like that go down with another injury, we all felt for her," Australia allrounder Ashleigh Gardner said in the post-match press conference.
Just as the Aussies were reeling from Vlaeminck's injury, skipper Healy hobbled off the field with an acute injury to her right foot while running between the wickets.
If both Vlaeminck and Healy are ruled out, the Australian team management will have to think out some quick replacement options, with scan results scheduled to come on Saturday, October 12.
Australia next play India in their final group league game on Sunday, October 13.
