Former England captain Eoin Morgan has said that the Indian Test team has to be considered one of the greatest in their own conditions, after their recent exploits in the longest format at home. India have become an unbeatable unit at home, having won 18 successive home Test series over the last 11 years. The last time India lost a Test series at home was in 2012 against England.
The recent Test win against Bangladesh in Kanpur saw India adopt a fearless batting approach, which blew away the cricketing world. With just over two days' play possible due to inclement weather, India went all guns blazing with the bat and bowled Bangladesh out twice to win the match.
The Indian batting was so quickfire that they broke records of the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 by a team in Tests. They eked out a convincing seven-wicket win against Bangladesh, prompting Morgan to rate the Indian team highly.
"They (India) have to be considered one of the greatest in their conditions. What makes them so good is their hunger and the desire to want to win. Their attitude towards that they never take for granted. We come from countries that have huge advantages for the home side," Morgan said on the sidelines of the launch of the International Masters League in Mumbai.
"But yet, our records throughout generations are nowhere near as good as Indians," Morgan added.
Not just at home, but India have put up some convincing performances overseas as well. They recently drew a two-match Test series with South Africa, beat the Windies 1-0 in another two-match series and thrashed Bangladesh 2-0 as well.
All eyes will be on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under, which India have won twice, as thehosts were left reeling by the end of the long series.
Australia last won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2014-15 and since then, have never won a series.
