Indian icon Ratan Tata passed away on Wednesday (October 9) in Mumbai. The former TATA Chairman was 86. Tata Group released a statement confirming his demise. The veteran industrialist was the chairman of the Tata Group for 21 years. The Tata Group enjoyed huge success during Ratan's tenure as the chairman. His stint ended in 2012.
Ratan Tata was quite popular on social media despite not being very active on it. During the 2023 World Cup, Ratan took to X to quash a big rumour. Afghanistan enjoyed a dream run at the 2023 World Cup and at one stage, they were looking a strong contender to make it to the semi-final of the ICC event.
During the ICC event, a fake Whatsapp forward, claiming that Ratan Tata has announced a Rs 10 crore award for Rashid Khan, went viral. It also reached the former Tata Chairman, who took to social media to quash it.
"I have made no suggestions to the ICC or any cricket faculty about any cricket member regarding a fine or reward to any players. I have no connection to cricket whatsoever Please do not believe WhatsApp forwards and videos of such nature unless they come from my official platforms," the former TATA Chairman wrote on X.
Rashid wasn't leading his team in the World Cup but he remains Afghanistan's most popular player. He has been a regular visitor to India since 2017 for his IPL commitments. Rashid represented Sunrisers Hyderabad from IPL 2017 to 2021. He moved to Gujarat Titans for the next three seasons. Gujarat are likely to retain him.
Talking about Afghanistan's performance in the 2023 WC, they missed out on making it to the semi-final and finished at the sixth spot. Afghanistan won 4 out of their 9 matches. They defeated defending champions, England and 1992 World Cup Champions, England in the league stage.
